SERVICE CONTINUED
Air under the ram, indicated by springiness of the ram or slowness in starting to rise, can usually be removed by
the following procedure:
1.
Loosen the hose connection at the cylinder and ram assembly.
2.
Actuate the pump.
3.
Tighten the hose connection when the air bubbles no longer appear.
4.
If the condition persists, rell the cylinder and ram assembly with oil (WP 0009 00).
REMOVAL
1.
Uncouple the quick disconnect tting of the nose at the pump assembly.
2.
Remove the nine nuts and bolts that secure the cylinder and ram assembly (WP 0002 00, Figure 1, Item 5) in
the tripod assembly and remove the cylinder and ram assembly.
3.
Remove the hose assembly from the bottom of the cylinder and drain the oil.
DISASSEMBLY
1.
Remove the socket (Figure 1, Item 16), pin (Figure 1, Item 15), chain (Figure 1, Item 14) and screw (Figure
1, Item 13) from cylinder assembly (Figure 1, Item 12).
2.
Remove the rise indicator rod (Figure 1, Item 32) from the rise indicator tube assembly (Figure 1, Item 18).
Remove the wingnut (Figure 1, Item 26) that secures the tube to the indicator collar (Figure 1, Item 27).
3.
Remove the pad socket (Figure 1, Item 19) and the ram extension screw nut (Figure 1, Item 23) from the
extension screw (Figure 1, Item 20). Remove the extension screw from the ram and nut assembly (Figure 1,
Item 17), releasing the extension screw retaining plunger (Figure 1, Item 22) and the extension screw spring
(Figure 1, Item 21).
4.
Remove the four screws (Figure 1, Item 24) that secure the indicator collar retainer (Figure 1, Item 25) to the
ram and nut assembly and remove the retainer, indicator collar (Figure 1, Item 27) and the indicator collar
support (Figure 1, Item 28) from the ram. Loosen the retaining screw in the ram locknut (Figure 1, Item 29)
and turn the locknut off the ram.
Remove the upper bearing (Figure 1, Item 31) from the cylinder assembly (Figure 1, Item 12) and take the

key assembly (Figure 1, Item 30) out of the bearing.
6.
Pull the ram with attached parts out of the cylinder. Loosen the screw (Figure 1, Item 33) and remove the ram
pin (Figure 1, Item 7) from the ram lower bearing (Figure 1, Item 8). Remove the lower bearing, preformed
packing (Figure 1, Item 9), backup ring (Figure 1, Item 10) and the ram upper bearing (Figure 1, Item 11) from
the ram and nut assembly (Figure 1, Item 17).
7.
Remove the 45-degree elbow (Figure 1, Item 35) from the cylinder.

DEGREASING SOLVENT, MIL-PRF-680
Degreasing solvent, MIL-PRF-680, is combustible and toxic to eyes, skin and respiratory tract.
Wear protective gloves and goggles/face shield. Avoid repeated or prolonged contact. Use
only in well ventilated areas (or use approved respirator as determined by local safety/industrial
hygiene personnel). Keep away from open ames or other sources of ignition.
Clean all parts in Cleaning Solvent and dry thoroughly with compressed air and a lint-free cloth.
