LUBRICATION
WARNING
DEGREASING SOLVENT, MIL-PRF-680
Degreasing solvent, MIL-PRF-680, is combustible and toxic to eyes, skin and respiratory tract.
Wear protective gloves and goggles/face shield. Avoid repeated or prolonged contact. Use
only in well ventilated areas (or use approved respirator as determined by local safety/industrial
hygiene personnel). Keep away from open ames or other sources of ignition.
Pump assembly must be lubricated every 500 hours. Increase frequency when WP 0006 00, Operating Under
Unusual Conditions. All points of application must be cleaned with Cleaning Solvent prior to lubrication.
ASSEMBLY
1.
Install the ball (Figure 1, Item 37), release stem packing (Figure 1, Item 35), release stem packing nut (Figure
1, Item 36) and the release assembly (Figure 1, Item 38) in the pump body (Figure 1, Item 18).
2.
Install the screen (Figure 1, Item 19) and two plugs (Figure 1, Item 20), in the pump body (Figure 1, Item 18)
3.
Install the ball (Figure 1, Item 21), intake valve spring (Figure 1, Item 22), ball (Figure 1, Item 23) and dis-
charge valve spring (Figure 1, Item 24) in the pump body and retain by installing the plug (Figure 1, Item 31).
NOTE
Tap each steel ball lightly with a brass drift as they are installed to ensure proper seating.
4.
Install the safety valve assembly (Figure 1, Item 32) and the relief valve assembly (Figure 1, Item 33) in the
pump body.
5.
Install the preformed packing (Figure 1, Item 13), backup ring (Figure 1, Item 12), pump-packing wiper nut
(Figure 1, Item 6), pump wiper (Figure 1, Item 7) and pump snap ring (Figure 1, Item 8) in the pump body.
Lubricate the pump piston lightly with (OH) Hydraulic Fluid, Petroleum Base. Slide the piston into the pump
body and tighten the wiper nut until a slight drag is felt on the piston.
6.
Install the chain (Figure 1, Item 11) and two screws (Figure 1, Item 10) on the pump body and the installed
piston.
7.
Install the elbow (Figure 1, Item 34) in the pump body.
8.
Install the piston pin roller (Figure 1, Item 39) and the pump piston pin (Figure 1, Item 4) in the pump handle
socket (Figure 1, Item 2) and stake the pin in place. Position the handle socket in the pump body and install
the pin assembly (Figure 1, Item 15). Secure the chain (Figure 1, Item 16) to the pin assembly and the pump
body with the two screws (Figure 1, Item 14).
9.
Secure the pump reservoir (Figure 1, Item 26) and the pump body gasket (Figure 1, Item 25) to the pump
body (Figure 1, Item 18) with the six screws (Figure 1, Item 5 and 17) and six lockwashers (Figure 1, Item 3).
10. Install the vent assembly (Figure 1, Item 29) and the plug (Figure 1, Item 27) in the reservoir. Insert the pump
handle (Figure 1, Item 1) in the socket.
TEST AND INSPECTION
1.
Inspect the steel balls, pump piston pin and the piston pin roller for pits and corrosion. Replace if defective.
2.
Inspect the wiper nut, pump piston and pump body for cracks, breaks and distortion. Check the clearance
between the wiper nut and the piston. Replace the wiper nut if the clearance exceeds 0.008 inch. Check the
clearance between the piston and the pump body. Replace both parts if the clearance exceeds 0.011 inch.
3.
Inspect all other parts for distortion and damaged threads. Replace if defective.
