Commercial fuels are commonly made to conform to American Society for Testing and Materials
(ASTM) Speciication D 1655. The ASTM fuel speciication does not contain anti-icing additives
unless speciied. Icing inhibitor conforming to MIL-I-85470 (Commercial name PRIST) shall be
added to commercial and NATO fuels, not containing an icing inhibitor, during refueling oper-
ations, regardless of ambient temperatures. Adding PRIST during refueling operation shall be
done using accepted commercial mixing procedures. The additive provides anti-icing protection
and also functions as a biocide to kill microbial growths in helicopter fuel systems.
