OPERATION PROCEDURES
Starting Engine
WARNING
It is essential for personnel to read and understand the Technical Manual (TM) before operating
this machine. Failure to follow the safety instructions could result in serious injury or death.
WARNING
DO NOT use ether as a starting aid. The engine is equipped with glow plugs. Highly lammable
ether and similar starting aids exposed to these devices can cause a ire or an explosion.
NOTE
Transmission gear selector must be in the PARK position and the hand brake ENGAGED
or the vehicle will not start.
1.
Review forms for discrepancies which will preclude operation.
Rotate the ignition switch (Figure 1, Item 17) to the RUN position.

If necessary, hold the glow plug switch (Figure 1, Item 12) in the up position until indicator light (Figure 1, Item
5) is illuminated, and allow the glow plugs to heat for the appropriate duration (Table 1).

Release glow plug switch.
NOTE
If the engine does not start within 20 seconds, return the start switch to the off position. Allow
starter to cool for 1 minute before attempting a re-start. If engine fails to start on the second
attempt, turn off switch and troubleshoot the engine start fault.
