Section II. DEFINITION OF UNUSUAL TERMS
Bondline - A line of adhesive or sealing compound which is formed when the surfaces being bonded are
pressed together.
Chafing - Wear caused by friction or rubbing.
Faying surface - Adjoining, fitting, or overlapping surfaces.
Fillet - A narrow strip of material.
Flyaway storage - Storage items subject to immediate flyaway.
Forward Looking Infrared - Looking at radiated infrared energy rather than reflected infrared energy.
Nap-of-the-Earth - Following the shape of the earth at very low altitudes.
Operator interaction - A way of detecting faults using semi-automatic procedures that require intervening
actions by the operator.
Tack free - Not sticking under pressure.
